Spirituality types

Corinne Ware (1995) explains in her book 'Discover your Spiritual Type' that people worship in different ways and experience God differently. Ware refers to spirituality types to explain this and she believes that spirituality types provide an explanation (and space) for how people think / experience different things differently about God.

Some people experience God especially in theological conversations, or in a special way when they come together as a group of believers, others experience God in silence and a group of people experience God through actions that bring hope and change to others. This is a brief explanation of Caroline Ware's spirituality types: head, heart, mysticism and kingdoms (hand) spiritualities.

For a summary and test on the spirituality types: http://carollanfear.weebly.com/uploads/1/0/5/1/10516291/the_ammended_spirituality_wheel.pdf

We simply summarize them:

  1. To learn (head)
  2. To gather (heart)
  3. To be (mystical)
  4. To do (Hand)

We divided our ministries among these four spirituality types. Some ministries fall under one spirituality type and others can be grouped among different types. The test of Ware also indicates that one does not have to have one preference. The main reason for this division is to help members to get involved, as well as to find a space where they can experience God. The idea is therefore not to restrict members to a single group of ministries, because in essence we understand that we experience something of all four and even more that we should all strive to discover something of all four types.
